It was another day of enthralling Murray League action on Saturday, with mixed results for both the Cobram and Barooga sides.
In the senior football competition the Tigers and the Hawks picked up much-needed wins.
For Cobram it was another resounding victory, with the side downing Finley by 125 points.
The 25.7 (157) to 4.8 (32) result at the Finley Recreation Reserve was a convincing one, with John Brunskill’s side simply a class above.
Tyron Baden was named best on ground for the Tigers, with the number 36 joined by Luca Allen, Matthew DeMaio, Ben Ryan, Noah Lane and Lewis McShane in the bests.
Both DeMaio and McShane were in fine form in front of goal scoring five a piece, with the duo joined by nine other visiting players on the goal-kicking list.
Meanwhile at Barooga, the Hawks picked up their third win of the season, downing Rumbalara in a narrow victory.
The 14.11 (95) to 12.10 (82) result was a good one with the home side leading at every change.
At the end of the first term the Hawks led by five, extending their lead to 20 at the half-time break.
This was how the margin remained at the end of the third, with Barooga doing just enough to stay in front and record a 13-point win as the final siren sounded.
Kris Bextream, Riley Brooks, Daniel Johnston, Samuel Macheda, Callum Leighton Daly and William Robinson stood out for the home side, with Johnston kicking six majors on the day.
- On the netball courts it was two disappointing results for the region’s A-grade sides with two losses recorded.
For Cobram it was a tricky away game at Finley on Saturday afternoon with the Cats simply too strong across the court, picking up a 51-to-27 win.
Meanwhile in Barooga the Hawks faced the mammoth task of Rumbalara, with Rumba sitting second on the table.
It was a gallant effort from the home side, however unfortunately Rumba was a class above, taking out a 41-to-24 win.
Next week all sides will be treated to a weekend off, with the Murray League holding a general bye.
