Echuca United coach Jess Saunders said she was proud of her side’s efforts after falling to top-two side Rumbalara at the weekend.

Rumba ran away with a 63-43 victory on its home court, but at half-time the Eagles were circling just three goals down.

Rumbalara eventually showcased its class to run out a 20-goal victor, but Saunders was impressed with the skills displayed by the Eagles.

“We had an awesome game,” Saunders said.

“We were tied at the end of the first and then we were down by three at half-time. It was a really positive effort from everyone.

“We were looking after the ball and taking our time moving it down the court.

“Their size and aggression on their home turf played to their advantage. I was really proud of everyone and the skill sets everyone brought.”

Saunders highlighted defender Tilly Keenan and attacking duo Remy Day and Kate Pearson as the standouts, while Saunders’ direct opponent, Jess Bamblett, was one of Rumbalara’s best.

The result consigns United to a 3-14 win-loss record, while Rumbalara will face Nathalia in the final home-and-away round with the winner to steal second spot and the coveted double chance.

Echuca United will end its season with a round 18 clash against Barooga in hopes of atoning for its three-goal defeat in round six.
