It was another big weekend of Murray Netball League A-grade action on the weekend, with mixed results for the region’s two sides.
For the NSW side of the river it was a successful time, with Barooga picking up a close four goal win over Congupna away from home.
The Hawks looked dangerous early, with goal shooter Skye Nash shooting 100 per cent in the first half, with the best on court performance helping the visitors build a comfortable 12-goal lead almost halfway through the game.
However, a defensive switch from Congupna flipped the contest on its head, with a change at goal keeper seeing the Hawks flow of scoring stop and Congupna draw level.
Yet, Barooga stood up, coming in clutch to run out for four winners.
Barooga coach Matt Healey said after an illness interrupted start to the year, it was an important team performance.
“It was a huge win for us, if we lost we would have lost touch with that last finals spot so it was good,” Healey said.
“It was our best team performance for the season, we’ve had an interrupted start to the year as I’m sure a lot of sides have with illness, not just COVID-19, so we’re looking for some consistency.”
For Cobram, things were a little less exciting, with the Tigers falling to Tongala at home.
Unfortunately it as a tough day at the office for the home side, with Cobram unable to continue it’s good round seven form.
The 10-to-57 result was a disappointing one, however there were plenty of positives to take away from the contest.
This week Cobram will face an away trip to Deniliquin, while Barooga will host Nathalia, with both games on Saturday at 1.30pm.
