Billed to be one of the game’s of the Murray Netball League season, Rumbalara ensured its clash with Nathalia was anything but, dominating from start to finish to come away with a pivotal 41-21 triumph.

A win built around its hard-fought defence, the Rumba defenders were in sync, keeping the dangerous Purples attackers to 21 goals despite the perfect conditions at Nathalia Recreation Reserve.

Now sitting six points clear in second position on the ladder, Rumbalara coach Jess Bamblett said it was pleasing to see her team firing on all cylinders in such a crucial match.

“I just thought we stuck to our game plan really well through all four quarters and just didn’t let up on our defensive pressure,” Bamblett said.

“All day our defenders were outstanding and really made life hard for their opposition, and I also thought on the offensive end we had really nice flow and moved the ball well.

“In Nathalia’s defence they were missing their main shooter, so I don’t think the scoreboard truly reflected how good they are, but to our girls’ credit they stuck to the task and didn’t let them into the contest.”

Having now won its past seven matches, Rumbalara is showing it has the ability to win in a whole manner of different ways as it continues to stalk undefeated Deniliquin in second spot.

Sporting a host of winners across the court, Bamblett made mention of one girl in particular who continued her excellent season.

“Lacey Paaka was incredible for us through the midcourt,” she said.

“Her intensity and defensive pressure was enormous all day and she really set the tone for us on that defensive side of the ball.”

Taking part in a special day of cultural celebration and recognition at Nathalia Recreation Reserve, Bamblett said the meaning behind the day made the victory all the more special.

“It was a good win for the club in Indigenous round and just a great day all round,” she said.

“To be able to showcase all our teams at Rumbalara and our proud culture it was fantastic and made the win all the more sweet.”

Around the courts, Finley claimed a much-needed win, grinding out a tought 39-51 triumph over a gallant Numurkah.

Deniliquin showed it is the team to beat, dismantling Echuca United 83-28 on its home court.
