After a tough start to the season in round one, the Magpies bounced back strongly at home against Rumbalara for their first win of the season.
Desperately in need of a win to avoid sliding to 0-2 in 2025, Moama pulled out all the stops to trample Rumba, but the win wasn’t without its resistance.
Little separated the two sides in the first quarter as they felt each other out, both clocked a goal each in the opening five minutes.
The Magpies dashed out to a 15-6 lead throughout much of the first period, but Rumba snuck one in late, to bring the disparity to three points at quarter-time.
It wasn’t long before Moama demonstrated the full breadth of its prowess, opening up in the second quarter to dominate the contest.
Rumba could only manage a pair of behinds for the term, while the Magpies lanced eight goals through the sticks to blow out the visitors, heading into half-time up by 54 points.
Rumba hit back immediately after the major break, but a trio of goals by Archie Teasdale, Lachlan Carmody and Jake Ellery opened the floodgates for the hosts who wrestled back momentum.
With the disparity remaining as it was at half-time, Rumba would need a stellar final stretch to get anywhere close to catching the soaring Magpies.
A relatively quiet final quarter from both sides didn’t change much, with a second goal from Teasdale and a third from Khy Stovell pushing Moama over the 100-point mark.
The game was all bar wrapped up in the second quarter, with the Magpies doing well to continue on with their lead, finishing up 61 points ahead of the visitors.
The final score was Moama 15.11 (101) to Rumbalara 6.4 (40).
Zac Stovell’s strong game at half-back handed him the best-on honour in round two and he was joined by goal-kickers Lachlan Carmody, Darchi Clarke and Tobias Thoolen as well as coaches Liam Barrett and Jye Warren.
The win brings Moama’s season standing to even and in sixth position, with an opportunity to climb the rankings when it faces Echuca United in round three for the annual Three Jacks Trophy.
