The Bowls Premier League 20 is in the books and Moama has fallen just short of a finals berth for the second competition in a row.
Competing at Pine Rivers Bowls Club in Bray Park, Queensland, the Moama side of locals Cassandra Millerick, Kevin Anderson and coach Stuart Whyte, and third team member Aron Sherriff, took on the 11 other BPL franchises.
The event ran from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15, with each side playing 22 matches across the competition, followed by a five-side finals series.
As was the case in February at home in BPL 19, Moama finished with an even record in BPL 20, 11-11, and just like earlier in the year, the local side was denied a finals place by shot differential.
It was even the same opponent that the caused heartbreak for Moama, the Adelaide Pioneers sneaking into the finals at the Steamers’ expense for the second event in a row.
Both sides had an identical 33 match points, but the Pioneers led Moama on set points (2 to 5) and score differential (+3 to -19).
Moama was hit and miss throughout the event, unable to establish a winning streak as it traded wins and losses across the 22-game campaign.
Tweed Ospreys took out the overall championship, defeating Sydney Lions 13-12 in the final.
The BPL is a faster format of bowls, featuring five-end sets and time limits on bowlers, with games completed in around an hour.
This season extended the competition to 12 teams with the Sydney Saints and Geelong Jets joining the league.
Moama has hosted one of the twice yearly BPL events since 2020.
BPL 20 was streamed on Kayo and is available on replay.
