Moama Football Netball Club had a successful 2024 season in all grades, and all sides are gearing up for deep finals campaigns.
Both Moama’s junior football sides, the under-14s and under-17s, have had dominant seasons in their respective divisions, and both are among the flag favourites.
The under-14s are second and tied with competition leaders Cobram, having lost only one game to the Tigers in round 10.
Meanwhile, the under-17s are on top of the table, a game in front of second-placed Cobram, remaining undefeated after an opening-round loss to Echuca United.
In junior netball, the under-13s are on top of the table, not losing a game all season. The under-15s also sit on top of the table, having had one loss and a draw so far, and the under-17s have also had a dominant season, leading the competition and not dropping a game in 2024.
Moama Football Netball Club president Matt Lake praised all young sides’ efforts so far in 2024, including the under-11s netball side, whose division doesn’t play finals.
“The under-11s who don’t play finals in netball don’t play finals, but they finished on top of the ladder, so they have also had an excellent year,” he said.
“All of the junior sides are very promising, and we are looking forward to cheering them on as they progress through the finals.”
The Moama reserves side has had a respectable season. They sit fourth, while the seniors’ side is in third. Both will make the finals in 2024.
The senior netball sides are more diverse. The C-reserve and A-grade sides are both in second place, B-grade is in third and C-grade is in fourth place. All will be playing finals netball in September.
Off the court and field, Moama Football Netball Club has had a busy season, with several events throughout the year.
One of which was a Ladies’ Day in May, where the club raised more than $12,000 towards a fund for Harriet, daughter of Ash Good, an Echuca native who lost her life in the Bondi Junction attack in April.
“We had a few netballers approach the committee about attaching a fundraiser to the Ladies’ Day, so that was fantastic,” said Lake.
“The footballers and netballers all wore pink socks on the day and raised awareness for the ERH Cancer Centre as well.”
The club will be holding its Indigenous round this Saturday, August 24, with all footballers and netballers wearing Indigenous-designed jumpers and dresses.
Uncle Rick Ronnan will be in attendance to conduct a welcome to country and smoking ceremony.
Moama Bowling Club sponsors the event.
Lake highlighted the success Moama Football Netball Club has had both in competition and in the community.
“Both on and off the field, it has been very successful, and there has been a lot of help and support, and we always have a good supporter base come and cheer our teams on at home and away,” he said.
“Win, lose or draw come finals, we are still a great club and in a fantastic spot moving forward.”
