Moama steams into second place in premier league

The Moama Steamers are sitting pretty in second place through three rounds of the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region Premier League 2024-25 season.

Despite losing to South Bendigo in its opening fixture, the Steamers have answered with back-to-back wins against Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat to get its season back on track.

In round one, South Bendigo (16-85) handily beat the Steamers (2-69) despite Moama skip Kevin Anderson and his side comprised of Brock Keenan (lead), Barry Brennan (second) and David Keenan (third) winning rink one 20-16.

The Steamers put up a good fight, only losing two rinks by two and three shots respectively, with skips Matthew Robertson and Travis Kelly losing 21-24 and 17-19.

Moama (15-87) found form when it travelled to Bendigo, coming away with a victory over Golden Square 3-70.

Skips Cameron Keenan and Robertson picked up points for their side, winning 27-9 and 24-21.

Kelly and his team drew with Golden Square 21-apiece, while Anderson was bested 15-19.

With the wind in their sails, the Steamers returned home in round three where they hosted Kangaroo Flat.

Moama (18-103) dominated the Kangaroos (0-50), winning every rink convincingly.

Keenan and his team won rink one 28-11, Anderson won rink two 23-10, Kelly won rink three 25-12 and Robertson won rink four 27-17.

The overwhelming victory will give the Steamers confidence as the season progresses.

Moama will travel to face seventh-placed Marong on Saturday, November 16.
