Moama’s good run of form has come to an end in the Murray Netball League A-grade competition, going down to a tough Rumbalara outfit 26-36 away from home.

After a spluttering start to the season which saw the Magpies wait until rounds seven and eight to record consecutive victories, the side had finally found some momentum with three wins in a row heading into the weekend.

But last year’s grand finalist in Rumbalara halted the charge, also leaping above Moama on the ladder with the win, leaving the Pies with a 5-4 record at the mid-point of the season, occupying the last available finals spot in sixth.

For Moama, the 10-point loss was simply a result of facing a better team on the day, according to coach Jodie Lake.

“Yeah, disappointing not to get the win,” she said.

“But I couldn't fault much in the way we played, Rumba are always a tough opposition. We will regroup and look to next weekend which should be a great game.”

Liv Taverna was adjudged the Pies’ best player, the wing attack doing all she could to keep her side in the game.

The Magpies will come up against a resurgent Echuca United next weekend, who extended its own winning streak to seven when it accounted for Tocumwal at the weekend.

Moama will take some confidence into the clash knowing it is the last side to have beaten the Eagles way back in round two, when it comfortably took the 51-29 win.

With plenty of netball still to come, the Magpies will hope to put some breathing place between themselves and the chasing pack of Congupna (5-4) and Nathalia (4-6), who are threatening to pounce on any opportunity presented to them.
