Moama Football Netball Club has added three new pieces of silverware to its trophy cabinet after claiming a trio of Murray League grand final wins on the netball court on Saturday.

The Magpies’ under-13, under-17 and B-grade sides were all victorious in their Murray League deciders, earning premiership glory in front of a bumper home crowd at Moama Recreation Reserve.

It was Moama’s youngest side that got the day off to a perfect start, with the under-13s claiming a 10-goal win over Mulwala in the opening game of the day.

The young Pies were in front from start to finish, leading at the end of every quarter before as they triumphed 32-22.

Moama’s Diaz Agg was awarded the best-on-court honour, capping off a great week that also saw her finish second in the Murray League’s under-13 best-and-fairest.

While the under-13s were celebrating their win, there was plenty of drama unfolding on the court next door.

Moama’s under-17s were looking to cause an almighty upset against an undefeated Tongala side that hadn’t lost a game since 2019.

And it was the Pies who got off to a hot start, scoring the opening five goals of the game and leading 15-8 at quarter time.

But like champion sides do, Tongala dug in and responded in the second term. The Blues came storming back, netting six of the first seven goals to trim the margin, with the scores level at half-time.

The second half was an arm wrestle as rain began to fall — the two sides traded goals, with the scores again level with three quarters in the books.

It was a similar story in the final term, and when the hooter sounded, the scores were tied once again at 40-40, forcing the game into extra time.

The intensity was already sky high, but overtime took it to a whole other level. Both teams were desperate for the ball, showing a relentless hunger to try and pull their side in front.

Tongala held a one-goal lead after the first of the two seven-minute extra halves, and they carried on their momentum to open up what looked to be a decisive three-goal advantage.

But Moama came storming back. The Pies levelled the scores, and then with only seconds left on the clock, drained the go-ahead goal to clinch a stunning premiership victory.

Moama’s B-grade netballers were the third team claim premiership glory on Saturday, capping off a perfect undefeated season with a resounding win over Tongala.

The Magpies were on fire from the get-go, jumping out to an 8-1 lead early. The Blues worked their way back into the contest, but still it was Moama who held a 12-6 lead at quarter time.

From there, the Pies pulled away as they showcased their class that saw them claim the minor premiership.

The Pies lead by 15 goals at half-time and 19 at the final change, before finally winning 52-31 to clinch the club’s third consecutive B-grade premiership.

While it was a fairytale end to the season for Moama’s under-17s, under-13s and B-grade sides, it wasn’t quite so for the other three Pies sides in action on Saturday.

Moama’s C-grade netballers fell to Echuca United 39-30, while on the football field the under-14s suffered a three-point loss to Cobram and the reserves fell to Tongala by six points.
