Todd Murphy broke new ground in his budding Test cricket career with a new high score in First Class cricket.

In the fourth and final match of the Border-Gavaskar series in Ahmedabad, the 22-year-old finally found his groove with the bat to post 41 runs on day two following centuries to Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green.

The Moama export was part of a 70-run partnership with fellow spinner Nathan Lyon, propelling Australia to a monstrous first-innings total of 480.

Before this innings, Murphy had compiled just five runs from as many knocks throughout the series.

Murphy’s innings came to an end at the hands of Ravichandran Ashwin, trapped LBW and reviewing unsuccessfully nine runs short of a maiden half-century.

India proceeded to bat out on day three in response to Australia’s score on the batter-friendly pitch, navigating to 3-289 at stumps.

Murphy’s excellent series with the ball continued, breaking up a 113-run partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Indian centurian Shubman Gill, catching Pujara LBW for 42.

Murphy bowled 22 overs for the day, ending with figures of 1-45 including six overs in another patient display.
