Grand final day in Kyabram District League appears to be staying at the Cattery for the foreseeable future.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday night to decide whether Mooroopna Football Netball Club will host the league’s red-letter day for the next three years, continuing its relationship with the league which has spanned at least a decade.

League president Peter Cordy rattled off several benefits of what makes Mooroopna Recreation Reserve a drawcard destination for the competition’s day of days.

“Basically the relationship is that it’s central, it’s a lockable facility and it’s got good amenities for netball and football,” he said.

“We think it’s central, we think it’s got good, up-to-date amenities and it can host a grand final with good parking facilities, so that’s probably the main driver behind it.

“We’ve just got to get the documents signed and finally get it over the line, but yeah, we’re pretty close to it.”

The league’s preference also centres around Mooroopna Recreation Reserve’s proximity to most of its member clubs.

Each grand final day since 2014 has been held at the venue and in the years prior, bar Tatura's hosting of the occasion in 2013.

Cordy said clubs were involved in discussions around the grand final returning to Mooroopna for another three years, but a definitive decision would be made later in the week.

“We discussed it at the delegates meeting with the clubs, and the general consensus was that if we could get the right remuneration then the ability for them to host it takes the pressure off clubs that may be playing in the finals,” Cordy said.

“If you did have it at a separate venue, maybe doing a part of the catering you’d be short on volunteers. It just works for us all round.

“Tuesday night we’ve got our executive meeting, so if everyone agrees to what’s been agreed to thus far verbally, then we’ll sign off on an agreement with Mooroopna late (this) week and it’ll be official.

“The KDL looks forward to hosting another hopefully successful grand final in both football and netball at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.”
