Kyabram’s Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield clash with Katandra was in the balance after the first day’s play at Kyabram on Saturday.
The Mueller brothers, Kyle and Cade, rescued Kyabram after it had lost three early wickets to help build a respectable score of 222 off 56.4 overs.
Kyle continued his stellar season of run-making with another top team score of 77 off 63 deliveries, which included 10 fours and 2 sixes, while Cade contributed 33 off 46 balls with six boundaries.
Kyle’s runs took his tally for the season to 447.
Kyabram’s total got a late boost from Paul Parsons, Jack Donnell, and Shafiqullah Maroofkhel.
Parsons made 32, Donnell 22, and Maroofkhel an unbeaten 20 to provide welcome late runs for the home side.
Parsons, who has been opening the innings, hit four boundaries in his knock while batting at number six.
Big former Colbinabbin quick Hadleigh Sirett was the most successful Katandra bowler with 4-32 off 11 overs.
At stumps, in reply, Katandra was 2-28 off 20 overs with Charlie McLay and spinner Louis Sabbagh-Holt the wicket-takers.
Kyabram’s B-grade side posted a respectable 242 off 77.4 overs with skipper Jason Parsons leading from the front.
Parsons made 60 off 81 deliveries with five fours, and with Paul Wickham (38), Nic Chambers (34), Mason McDonald (28), and Matt McDonald (26), ensured Kyabram a competitive total.
After a euphoric win the previous week, Kyabram’s E-grade side disappointingly couldn’t raise a team last Saturday and forfeited its clash to Karramomus.
