Two young prospects from the Goulburn Murray region continue to take giant strides in their cricket journey.

Shepparton talent Gemma Boyd and Echuca’s Grace Moyle have been picked to showcase their skills on the national stage after earning a place in Victoria Country’s National Championship squad.

The duo have been added to the 13-player under-16 side bound for Canberra after showcasing stellar club and representative cricket form.

The National Championships will take place from January 5 to 12.

Boyd, an emerging all-rounder, currently plays for Carlton Cricket Club at Premier level and for her junior club Central Park-St Brendan’s.

“We congratulate all players who have been involved in our Emerging Player Program this season,” Cricket Victoria’s female emerging player performance manager Andy Christie said.

“The level of skill and intent to learn was outstanding and we’re excited to send two Victorian teams eager to challenge themselves against the other states.

“Preparation for the National Championships will commence immediately with a priority on match awareness, game play, fielding and managing pressure situations.”

Boyd has played a total of 130 matches and boasts career-best figures of 94 not out with the bat and 3-8 with the ball.

Her exciting and sublime unbeaten 94 came last season during an under-15 Youth Premier League contest.

Representing Northern Rivers, Boyd crunched 94 from 105 deliveries at the top of the order.

That campaign saw Boyd average 47.2 with the willow from seven innings.

The teenage maestro has played four matches for Carlton’s second XI outfit this 2022-23 season.

Boyd’s Carlton teammate Moyle can be found plying her trade for Echuca in Goulburn Murray Cricket and it was on the country cricket scene where selectors began to take notice.

At representative level, Moyle set Junior Country Week alight in January with a blistering 124-run innings for GMC in a destructive display of her batting prowess, her second ton for the league.

It was shortly after that innings that Moyle then smashed a swashbuckling 104 for Northern Rivers in the Youth Premier League one-day competition, with another 74 rounding out a strong campaign.

Moyle’s destructive ability had her earn a premier cricket First XI debut for Carlton as a 14-year-old in December.
