Kyabram goal-kicking ace Kyle Mueller is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the Bombers’ 57-point Good Friday win over Rochester.
Mueller, who kicked six goals on the night, was helped from the ground after a heavy contest early in the final quarter.
Coming into the game with a pre-existing ankle concern, Kyabram coach Paul Newman said early signs suggested it was a re-aggravation of that injury.
“He went into the game with a bit of a sore ankle, he went over it getting out of the tractor during the week, so he just re-aggravated that,” Newman said.
“We are not too sure at this stage, he will go in for scans and we’ll get more of an idea after that but it looks like he just re-injured his ankle.
“At the moment we think he will probably miss around a month.”
Star recruit Sam Reid sent a major scare through the Echuca camp, going down with a knee injury in the club’s season opener against Rochester.
While Reid will be out of the Echuca lineup for the foreseeable future, coach Simon Maddox said they did expect him to return this season.
“It will be an extended period of time,” Maddox told the Riverine Herald.
“It’s likely to be mid-year we get him back. It’s not season-ending (surgery) by any means.”
Rochester will be without 2018 best-and-fairest winner Doug Wren for the remainder of the season, with the classy midfielder suffering an ACL injury against Echuca a fortnight ago.
It was Wren’s first game back in yellow-and-black after returning from a stint with Shepparton United, and Tigers coach Steven Stroobants said the injury served as a major blow to his team.
“Unfortunately Doug went down with an ACL so that will see him out for the season,” Stroobants said.
“It is really unfortunate for him and us as well, because getting him back was a really important part of how we were going to go about this year.
“So hopefully he can get his rehabilitation right and we will see him bigger and better next year.”
Seymour is the walking wounded of the GVL at the moment, with more than a dozen first-choice players currently missing from the senior side.
Reigning Morrison Medallist Jack O’Sullivan headlines the list of outs, with the hard-nosed midfielder set to miss an extended period after injuring his shoulder in a practice match.
“Jack has had shoulder surgery and best case is he will be able to come back for the last month of the season,” Seymour coach Ben Davey said.
“Huw Jones is in the same boat, also having shoulder surgery after that same practice game, so it was a bit of a dirty day for us losing those two guys.”
Three fresh injuries at the weekend have left the Lions with an extensive list of players in the medical room.
Ben Tarran and Josh Alford both found themselves in hospital following the loss to Mansfield, while Rory Scopel left the field on Saturday afternoon with a groin injury.
“Ben Tarran has a broken arm and hair-line crack in his cheek bone after colliding with the retaining wall, while Josh Alford has a broken cheek bone and eye-socket and he needs facial surgery,” Davey said.
“Rory (Scopel) has some groin soreness, he is getting checked out today so we aren’t sure how that’s going to pan out.”
