Ladder-leader Cobram has kept its record unblemished in Murray Playing Area Saturday Pennant division one action, as it swept Strathmerton away in a comprehensive 16-97 to 0-32 victory at the weekend.

After being tested by Numurkah Golf in round five, the Tigers didn’t waste time in their encounter with Strathmerton, cruising to a sizeable victory thanks to rink wins across the board.

A 41-6 battering by John Dixon’s outfit in rink three completed the clean sweep, and showed why his side is a force to be reckoned with.

Numurkah Golf bounced back from its loss to Cobram in a hard-fought clash with Barooga on its home deck, surging above it on the ladder with a 12-67 to 4-57 win.

Wins to Peter Ware and Ian Smethurst’s squads in the first two rinks should have sealed a Barooga victory, but a courageous 29-14 fight-back from Mark Jones’ bowlers in rink three swung the match back in the Golfers’ favour.

Cellar-dweller Finley fell short against Tocumwal Golf, which picked up its first win of the campaign in a 16-71 to 0-49 victory.

Lee Richard and Chris O’Connell grabbed wins for the Golfers in the first two rinks, but they were certainly tested by the Finley bowlers, with Archie West’s squad coming within a point of O’Connell’s in rink two.

Chris Philpot’s outfit claimed a dominant 27-12 win in rink three — making the Golfers’ win official.

Finley stays on the hunt for its first win this season, facing yet another challenge this weekend in the form of second-placed Wunghnu.

Barry Cosgrove’s squad came away with a solid 26-19 victory to steer the game in Wunghnu’s direction in its Numurkah match-up, before Ross Higgins snagged a 29-22 win to ensure it would go down to the wire.

Peter Revell continued his fine form in rink three, dragging his side over the line in a narrow 21-19 victory.
