Three talents from the region were recognised at the Murray Football Netball League’s awards on Sunday.

Under-14 Cobram footballer Mikael Corso, under-17 Cobram footballer Lucas Roberts and C-grade Barooga netballer Breanna Anthony took out their respective competition’s best-and-fairest awards, while 15-and-under Cobram netballer Tahlia Pate was runner-up.

The medals cap off what was an impressive season for the players, with Corso also the under-14 leading goal kicker with 74 goals.

Picking up 44 votes, Corso has played a key role in his sides charge to the grand final and coach Duane Kelly said it was a much-deserved award.

“To Mikael’s credit, as a 14-year-old he did the full pre-season with the Cobram seniors,” Kelly said.

“One thing that we’ve prided Mikael on is his attention to detail, his preparation and what he does around the club too.

“He’s the first kid to put his hand up to jump into the canteen and help out or if there is anything that needs to be done around the club he’ll be one of the first kids to put his hand up.

“So not only is he a great young footballer on the field he is an absolute great clubman around the field as a 14-year-old.”

Happy days: C-grade Barooga netballer Breanna Anthony took home her league’s best-and-fairest award.

Corso picked up 44 votes for his best-and-fairest win, while Roberts won with 30 and Anthony had 25.

An important defender, Barooga’s Anthony picked up her award thanks to a consistent season in defence, with strong leadership skills helping the talent be a prolific force in the Hawks’ C-grade finals campaign.

In the senior football awards Nathalia’s Brodie Ross and Tongala’s Nicholas Jamieson took out the win, while Nathalia’s Tegan Sutton won the A-grade netball top gong.
