A special century to Shaun Downie stole headlines in round eight Murray Valley Cricket Association action.
The talented batter crafted a sublime 105-run knock which spearheaded Cobram to victory over Nathalia by a mammoth 203 runs.
Downie’s triple-figure stand was the 16th of his career and 14th in Cobram colours.
Downie — back at his old club after time away from the game and multiple seasons at Numurkah — was at his damaging best at the Cobram Showgrounds on Saturday.
In his second appearance of the campaign, Downie’s mesmerising ton led the Tigers to 6-270 from 45 overs.
Cobram skipper Adam De Cicco provided a stellar contribution with the bat and chalked up an unbeaten 76.
But De Cicco’s efforts did not end there.
The pace bowler claimed stunning figures of 5-7 from his seven overs as Nathalia got bundled out for 67 in reply.
Around the grounds, Deniliquin blitzed Tocumwal by eight wickets.
The Rhinos tore through Tocumwal with the ball and dismissed the home side for 59.
Deni made light work of the run chase and reached the target with two wickets down.
Meanwhile, the Barooga and Katunga game was postponed and will be played on March 5.
In the lower grades, Barooga’s B-grade outfit suffered a narrow loss to Berrigan.
The Hawks were unable to restrict Berrigan below their target score of 181, with the Saints saluting by two wickets.
Barooga talent Will Sharp starred with 60 runs, while Chris Cheong claimed 4-28.
Cobram’s B-grade outfit cruised past Deniliquin to record a five-wicket win.
An incredible 6-11 outing from Andrew Hogan led the Tigers to victory.
Lastly, Strathmerton was far too good against Tocumwal and ran out nine-wicket winners.
The Bulldogs, thanks to Michael Brooker (3-2), dismissed Tocumwal for 51 runs inside 10 overs.
Strathmerton reached the target with opener Michael Laidlaw unbeaten on 37.
