Nagambie and Murchison-Toolamba handed suspended fines by KDL following round two incident
Kyabram District League has slapped two of its member clubs with suspended fines until the end of the 2023 season following an investigation into an incident last month.
Nagambie and Murchison-Toolamba were issued the same penalties for an incident that stems from the round two encounter on April 22.
An altercation broke out amongst players from both teams following the final siren in the under-18 contest.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page this week, Nagambie highlighted that it had been issued a “substantial fine” which has been suspended until the end of the 2023 season.
The league refused to reveal the sum of the suspended fine that was handed to both clubs and directed both clubs to not disclose the figure.
The suspended fine must be paid if the clubs have another incident regarding anti-social behaviour prior to the conclusion of this season.
Nagambie president Jake Lloyd said the club was fully supportive of the league’s decision.
“There was an altercation following the thirds match in round two and we understand the league has a zero-tolerance policy in place for anti-social behaviour,” he said.
“From the club’s perspective we fully support the outcome from the league. We wanted to get that statement out on Facebook to showcase to everyone that Nagambie does not condone violence and we want to stamp this behaviour out.”
Murchison-Toolamba president Craig Thompson agreed with Lloyd’s sentiments about the importance of stamping out anti-social behaviour.
The April 22 incident is the latest episode of anti-social behaviour in the KDL.
It comes less than 12 months after the league was rocked by a melee following the 2022 senior football grand final which involved spectators and players.
Earlier this season in round three, an altercation broke out between players and spectators during the senior football match involving Avenel and Tallygaroopna.
The KDL executive issued the following statement in regard to the incident.
"The Kyabram District League has been very clear on the expected standards of behaviours on game day,“ the statement read.
“This is supported by our member clubs, and we continue to work collectively to ensure we provide a safe and inclusive environment for anyone who attends KDL games.
“Any proactive measures that our member clubs implement to support this are welcomed and encouraged by the KDL executive.”
