Nagambie has defeated Shepparton United in the first part of its two-day Haisman Shield game.

The Cricket Shepparton match is effectively do-or-die for both sides as one more round remains in the season and both sit just outside finals qualification.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, United was bowled out for 100 after 38.4 overs.

Steven Tate (28 from 47 balls) and Mitchell Jarrett (17 from 57) were United’s top scorers.

The star of the first innings was Nagambie opening bowler and captain Mark Nolan who claimed 5-36 from his 17 overs, including five maidens.

Lakers’ Nathan Fothergill was also influential taking 3-24 from his eight overs.

Nolan’s brother and Nagambie wicketkeeper Luke Nolan also had a day out for the Lakers, taking six catches behind the stumps and one run-out.

In Nagambie’s innings, it finished the day on 5-139 and will look to build its first innings lead over United as it pursues an outright victory in the two-day match.

THE GAME

Shepparton 100 (Steven Tate 28, Mitchell Jarrett 17, Mark Nolan 5-36) trails Nagambie 5-139 (Tyrone Muir 45, Luke Nolan 36*, Connor Green 2-30)

Lakers opening batter Tyrone Muir got his side off to a bright start before losing his wicket, just shy of a 50, to United bowler Connor Green.

Muir still finished as top scorer for the day as he struck 45 runs from 56 balls, including six fours and one six.

Continuing with their good form, the Nolan brothers were the two batters left not out at stumps as Luke finished on 36 from 87 balls (three fours) and Mark on 16 from 10 balls (three fours).

While United isn’t entirely out of the game heading into this weekend, it does face an uphill battle if it is to recover and win this two-day match.
