A grade - Finley 44 def Cobram 29.
Our young A grade side were excited to hit the court against Cobram in their opening game of the season.
While the girls took a bit of time to find their feet on the court during the first quarter, having never played a game together as a team previously, the second quarter saw them come out firing. There were consistent plays flowing straight down the court into the ring, and multiple turnovers seeing the girls find a comfortable lead come half time.
The third quarter brought some small changes within the centre court positions, and while first game of season fatigue started to come into play, the girls still held their own continuing to hold the lead.
The final quarter saw the girls push right to the end gaining control of centre court plays and making some early turn overs.
A big welcome to Emily Thompson who made her debut in the senior competition. Daisy Daniel also made a return to the A grade team.
Awards: Eagle I Machinery - Maicie Close; Yasmin McGrath Award - Katie Archer.
B grade - Finley 33 lost to Cobram 45.
A new season brings together a brand new and relatively young B grade team.
A nervous start, coupled with some small skill errors and missed opportunities led to a tough first quarter, ending down by seven goals.
We came out firing in the second and third, pegging back the difference to just three goals at half time and five at three quarter time.
Unfortunately we couldn’t continue the intensity and let the game slip to a 12 goal difference.

It was a tightly fought battle all the way to the end, with some quality play and defensive efforts by both teams, attributing to a low scoring game.
Quarter time saw just two goals difference. Half time we were down by four, but the girls stepped up to the challenge and won the third quarter and bringing it back to a three goals difference heading in to the last quarter.
