Netballers tune up at Rochester invitational

In tune: Mooroopna’s A-grade netball side took out first place.

Goulburn Valley League junior and senior netballers enjoyed a fierce pre-season hit-out last weekend, warming up for the season ahead at the Rochester Netball Invitational.

Tatura, Shepparton Swans, Mooroopna, Echuca and Rochester were among the GVL sides competing, with a number of other district sides in attendance.

Mooroopna ran out the winner in the senior competition after finishing second with four wins and two losses.

The Cats overcame Rochester in the semis, before besting first-placed Echuca in the grand final to take home first prize.

Maddison Wong looks set for another big GVL campaign, after the gun defender clinched best-on-court honours in the final.

Mooroopna finished with the most impressive goal average on the day, conceding the least amount of goals (36), while scoring the second-highest (72).

Young guns: Shepparton Swans’ under-15s went eight wins from eight across the tournament.

Shepparton Swans’ under-15 side also had a tournament to remember, overcoming Mooroopna in the decider after the junior Swans enjoyed wins in all eight of their round-robin matches.

Remi Bruton was awarded best-on-court for her superb performances.

In the under-17 division, Rochester and Kangaroo Flat took out first and second, with Kangaroo Flat pinching a win over the Tigers in the final.
