A new commissioner has been appointed to help lead AFL Goulburn Murray into 2024.

Peter Kelton has received the opportunity as confirmed by the governing body for football and netball in the region late last week.

The news was announced in a statement issued by AFLGM regional manager Shaun Connell, with Kelton’s appointment due to take immediate effect.

Kelton possesses a varied background of engagement within his community across Shepparton and Mooroopna, having previously sat on the Cats’ club board.

Kelton also has past experience on the board of Mooroopna’s Rotary Club branch and has more recently been practising at the Shepparton-based Dawes & Vary Riordan law firm.

“Along with his love of community involvement, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge in law, strategy and governance,” AFLGM chair Quentin Thomson said.

Kelton was quick to make a public comment on his appointment as well.

“(I’m) feeling rather fortunate to become an AFL Goulburn Murray commissioner and look forward to working with the fellow commissioners and leagues and clubs to ensure the game’s continued development across the region,” Kelton said.

The AFLGM executives have been busier than may be expected at this time of year.

With many clubs’ pre-seasons still some time away from commencing across the district the board has dealt with the matter of sorting out Tocumwal’s future within the region’s leagues for the second straight off-season.
