Australians are spending $12.5 billion on sports and physical activities for those aged over 15.

The recent Australian Sports Commission AusPlay survey asked 20,000 respondents about their participation in sports and physical activity, as well as the fees paid.

The survey found that males aged 15 and over spent more on sports-related activities than females, with them spending around $450, while women spent about $300.

For those aged under 15, girls spent more than boys — $650 on average compared to $565 for boys.

For non-sport-related activities, in both age groups, women spent more, with over $600 for women compared to $624 for males aged over 15 and $240 for boys under 14.

The survey also found that walking and running were the two most popular non-sport and sport-related activities.

The survey took results from males and females of all ages, from the period of January to December last year.
