Both Leitchville-Gunbower and Lockington-Bamawm United were downed in tough match-ups in the opening round of Heathcote District Netball League.

L-G v White Hills

L-G travelled to White Hills Recreation Reserve to take on the Demons but were outclassed by the hosts, who put them to the sword 45-69.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Bombers who had to take on 2024’s minor premiers who lost just once in the home-and-away season last year.

The Demons appear to be on the right track to claiming the flag that slipped through their fingers last season, while L-G will look to build on the loss and climb back into finals contention throughout the rest of the 2025 season.

L-G will have a shot at redemption in round two, but it won’t come easy as the Bombers return home to face Huntly.

LBU v Huntly

The Cats came up against a strong Hawks outfit, with the hosts falling 22-goals short of Huntly’s total for the match.

Despite a valiant effort, the Hawks were too classy, defeating LBU 52-30.

Both sides finished outside of the finals last season, the Cats in seventh and Huntly in eighth, respectively.

The win will serve as an affirmation that the Hawks can play finals netball this time around, while the Cats will look to round into form when it takes on a tough Mount Pleasant outfit in its second home game of the season thus far.
