Where there is a Wil, there is a way for Congupna.

The Road’s Wil Norman was the man of the moment after Congupna’s nailbiting grand final victory over Finley in the Murray Football League on Saturday.

With the scores tied and only a handful of seconds remaining, Norman’s wibbly-wobbly kick towards goal carried through for a behind in a drought-breaking victory for the Roaders.

The behind meant Congupna took a 65-64 lead before the final siren blew seconds later and pandemonium occurred.

Speaking after the match, Norman said he didn’t know which way the ball was going to turn as it floated towards goal off his boot.

“Danny’ Schaper did the work on the ground, got the handball out (to me),” Norman said.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, it’s going out on the full and I’ve cost us bad here’.

“But it squeezed in and that was all we needed it to do.

“I didn’t really know how to celebrate when it happened, but luckily, the siren went and it all became pretty surreal.

“It’s cool as I was near my brother (Jack Norman) when the siren went and got around him - it was unreal.”

As the supporters streamed onto the field after the final siren, Norman said he couldn’t express how he felt for the next 10 minutes.

“I didn’t know what to feel - it was euphoric,” he said.

“This club deserves it after 31 years.

“I am half new here, but I feel so part of it because Congupna is such a great club.”

The Road’s last premiership came in 1993 in the now-defunct Tungamah Football League.

Congupna lost last year’s Murray Football League grand final to Mulwala by 33 points.

The Roaders’ one-point victory over the Cats is their first premiership in the Murray Football League.
