While football season has been and gone in the Goulburn Valley, the Northern Territory Football League has just kicked into gear, with a number of Goulburn Valley locals having an instant impact.
The Premier League season began three weeks ago, and it is the Eddie Betts-led Palmerston Magpies that lead the way, with Waratah, Southern District and Darwin Buffaloes closely following.
But when it comes to GV exports, PINT is the team of most interest, with an abundance of local talent donning the green and yellow.
Euroa livewire Jett Trotter showcased his prodigious talent in his second NTFL match, booting three goals in the Greenants’ 31-point win over St Mary’s at the weekend.
Deemed PINT’s second best player, Trotter was electric from start to finish, continuing on the form that saw him finish third in the GVL’s goal-kicking in season 2022.
Seymour’s Kyle Winter-Irving was also named in the best for PINT, with the swingman kicking two goals.
It was Winter-Irving’s second straight appearance in the Greenants’ best, and he extended his season goal tally to three.
The week prior, Mooroopna spearhead Chris Nield and Tatura skipper Brad Ryan also lined up for PINT, as it drew with Palmerston.
Nield continued his hot streak around the sticks in his first NTFL appearance for the season, booting two goals before injury forced him from the field.
Elsewhere, Tongala’s Cam Illett showed why he has been a stalwart of the NTFL, with a blistering start to the new season with Nightcliff.
Taking the field twice, Illett has been named in the best on both occasions, including being dubbed best afield in Nightcliff’s 29-point victory over PINT in round one.
Tonny teammate Ryan Nyhuis is also suiting up for Nightcliff this season, featuring in the best in the Tigers’ six-point loss to Palmerston at the weekend.
Jack Hammond joins Illett and Nyhuis in the Nightcliff line-up, kicking one goal from his two starts.
