Seymour Racing Club’s Christmas Party Race Day saw plenty of trackside fun and on-course action on Thursday, December 19, with eight races across a bumper schedule.

Race one kicked off a Christmas cracker for jockey Beau Mertens, who rode Makamae to a win for trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent, before backing it up with wins on Mohnar in race three for Gavin Bedggood and Mr Verse in race four for Tony and Calvin McEvoy to bag a triple and kick off the festive season in style.

Mertens wasn’t the only person to experience a hat-trick of wins either, with father-son training duo Anthony and Sam Freedman enjoying a brilliant day out also.

The pair kicked things off with a win for Seindeel in race two, ridden by Daniel Moor, before adding to their tally with Samurai in race five, ridden by Stephanie Hately, and again in race six with Castle On High, with jockey Craig Williams capping a magnificent day out for the duo.

Race seven saw Howlin’ Rain, ridden by Thomas Stockdale, get up for trainer Cindy Alderson, while the final race of the day was taken out by Call Him Iggy, trained by Mathew Smerdon and ridden by Will Gordon.

Punters won’t have to wait long for another meet at Seymour, with the Kids Day Out scheduled for Sunday, December 29, before racing returns in the new year on Thursday, January 16.
