Katamatite has collected its first points of the Picola District Netball League season, overcoming Rennie 53-33.

After a shock round one loss at the hands of Jerilderie, Tesslyn Saunders’ side showed its class with a solid 20-goal win to kick-start its campaign.

Despite the loss, Rennie mentor Paula Mifka said her side started in ideal fashion in its first home game of the season against quality opposition.

“We started off really well, strong driving, everyone’s leads seemed very dominant, up until half-time we were fairly even,” she said.

“They’re a pretty classy side, especially their attacking end, they’ve played together for a long while and they’ve always been pretty solid.”

A young Rennie group proved it could match it with PDL’s best in the opening stages of the game, before the experience of the Tigers’ side came to the fore in the third and fourth quarter.

“I think we definitely had too many unforced errors and a few bad decisions with our passing,” Mifka said

“That momentum then went their way which can happen, and it blew out from there.”

There’s plenty to work with at Rennie this year, Mifka says, with some work behind the scenes focusing her side’s efforts.

“All in all, we’ve got some really good take-aways from the game, we’re doing a lot of statistical work this year so we’ll know where we need to improve,” she said.

“We definitely have some things to work on that will get us back to being a lot more competitive.”
