Convincing victories across the board headlined a big weekend of Picola and District A-grade netball action.
All games were won by eight goals or more, with teams well and truly looking to start their seasons on a high.
Strathmerton and Katandra played out a strong contest with a final score of 33 to 48, with the Bulldogs taking out the win.
Bouncing back from a round one loss, Strathmerton coach Olivia Osborne said it was a good, strong team performance.
“We came out strong, we had a really strong first quarter, we lacked that against Waaia so that was a big thing for us to come out hard in the first quarter and let Katandra know that we wanted the win,” Osborne said.
“We had really strong defence, all the way from Casey Baker in wing defence to Caitlyn Price in goal defence and goal keeper.”
Osborne said it was exciting to bounce back from the round one loss.
“It was a real good team effort to bounce back, because it’s very hard to lose round one, you don’t sort of know where your side is sitting so it was really promising to see us get the four points this week and hopefully we can keep our fitness over the next three weeks,” she said.
Osborne said Strathmerton would have an extended break over the next couple of weeks, with the Easter bye followed by two games scheduled for clubs without A-grade sides.
“We’ve just got to try and keep our team together, keep training and keep our fitness so that when we come around to Deni in round six we are hopefully going to continue to be strong,” she said.
In other games from the weekend Katamatite opened its season with a loss, falling to Jerilderie by eight goals.
The win is Jerilderie’s second in a row, with the side looking to continue its good run of form when it returns after the bye, while the Tigers will certainly be disappointed with an opening game loss.
Waaia is looking more and more likely to be in the premiership conversation at the end of the season, with a massive 63 to 27 win over Mathoura.
The Bombers have been clinical so far this season and much like their football counterparts have won both games with ease.
Katunga made light work of Blighty at home, picking up a 20-point win, while Picola United downed Deni Rovers 56 to 21.
Tungamah, Rennie, Tocumwal and Berrigan all had a week off.
