The Katamatite Tigers are up and about, with the side picking up an important round three Picola and District Football League win over Rennie.
Jedd Wright’s team was in fine form on Thursday night, defeating the Hoppers 8.2 (50) to 18.14 (122) in an entertaining affair.
Wright said Katamatite was pretty happy with the performance, despite some inaccurate goal kicking in the second half.
“We were pretty happy overall with another four quarters really,” Wright said.
A strong first quarter got the Tigers off to a flying start, with Wright saying the 33-point margin at the first break proved a catalyst for the win.
“We knew that they were going to come out pretty hungry and everyone was pretty excited playing a night game so it was good to see everyone just turn up with the right mindset and you know pretty much get the job done in the first quarter,” he said.
“We looked at our sort of first four or five games and thought probably if we could be 3-1 or something like that we would be happy, so we roll into next week, which is the 125th year anniversary celebrations against Katunga.
“It’s going to be a massive week for the club and everyone’s pretty keen to move on from the past two weeks and get into this week.”
In the only other PDL game held over the Easter weekend Tocumwal 14.12 (96) lost to Berrigan 17.12 (114) on Friday afternoon.
The Saints were simply too good away from home, with three big quarters putting them in the box seat.
Tocumwal put in a strong fourth quarter, however it proved to be too little too late, with Berrigan taking home the points.
