Some of the Picola District Football League’s best talent will be in action this weekend, with two semi-finals set to light up Yarroweyah and Picola.

The third week of finals for 2022, a number of cracking contests have already lit up the league and with Katunga taking on Katandra and Strathmerton playing Katamatite, this weekend is sure to be entertaining.

On Saturday, the Swans will face off with the Kats at Yarroweyah, in a game that could go either way.

Coming off an extra time defeat to Tungamah last week Katunga will be full of confidence, however, the added time is sure to have had an impact on their bodies.

For Katandra on the other hand, a week off provided plenty of time to recover and coach Trent Herbert said he was looking forward to a massive challenge.

“They (Katunga) showed what they’re capable of pushing Tungamah last week,” Herbert said.

“Obviously it is a little bit in our favour having the week off and we’re a little bit fresher, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Herbert said getting the win against Picola United in the elimination final was a confidence booster, with the belief the side got from that game set to hold it in good stead.

He said Jonty Wardle would likely come back into the squad after suffering an injury early in the Picola clash.

“The squad is looking pretty good, probably not the strongest we could go into a final with, but still pretty positive and we’re still happy with where we’re at,” he said.

Saturday’s game between Katunga and Katandra will begin at 2.05pm at Yarroweyah.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Strathmerton will take on Katamatite at Picola.

Two of the competition’s heavyweights, the Bulldogs suffered a loss to Waaia last week, while the Tigers come off a win against Jerilderie in the elimination final.

Katamatite coach Jedd Wright said his side was ready to go for the contest, with a week off serving the team well.

“Jerilderie are probably similar to Strathmerton, they’re both pretty big, strong, physical teams, so we’ll take a fair bit out of that,” Wright said.

“But more importantly it’s given us a week to really freshen up and give us pretty much a full squad heading into the game.”

The Tigers will welcome a number of players back into the side for the weekend’s game with a near full strength line-up expected to run out.

With a number of talented opposition players to deal with, Wright said the Tigers had a plan to get the job done.

“To say you’re going to keep (Tim) Looby to no goals or (Jake) Ellery to 10 disposals or something like that it’s not going to happen,” he said.

“But we’ve just got to make sure it’s a team approach trying to keep those blokes quiet.”

With both teams full of talent, all eyes will be on Picola on Sunday, with the game due to start at 2.05pm.
