Picola United racks up double ton over Blighty

Fourteen majors went the way of Picola in the first half, with the Blues adding a further 19 in the second for a massive 33.16 (214) to 1.0 (6) win.

There were plenty of big bags for the Blues, with Cody Haub (eight), Austin Morgan and Blake Jorgensen (both six) the highlight goal hauls.

Haub and Morgan were two of Picola’s best, while Benjamin Turpin was best-on-ground for the Blues.

After an up-and-down season, Picola United (8-4) has found form in recent weeks and pushed into the top six, with a two-game gap to the nearest chaser.

After a general bye this weekend, the Blues face a challenging match-up with ladder-leader Katandra (11-1) at Picola Recreation Reserve on July 13.

Picola United’s A-grade netball side will be disappointed to have come away with a loss this week against Blighty, an opponent below it on the table.

The Redeyes narrowly got the best of the opening quarter to lead by four goals, but that lead quickly extended to double figures by half-time.

A Blues fightback in the third quarter saw them double their first half score in one quarter and trail by just four again, 36-40, going into the final term.

However, Blighty proved the more composed down the stretch and held on to take the game 54-48.

Picola United (4-8) will be a heavy underdog on July 13 when it faces Katandra (10-2).
