Putt your wellbeing first a success

At the Deniliquin Golf Club Well-being Initiative launch with lucky door prize winner Ingrid Greve and Chair of Deni MHAG Lyn Bond.

Putt your wellbeing first was the message leading into the launch of the Deniliquin Golf Club’s wellbeing initiative.

The Deniliquin Golf Club, in collaboration with Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group (Deni MHAG), launched their "UP TO PAR ", Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative on Friday night, October 14 at the Golf Club .

The Club recently received funding from the NSW Mental Health Sports Fund to bring wellbeing and mental health initiatives into the Golf Club environment.

More than 50 people attended the launch, which kicked off with a putting competition followed by a free barbecue.

Some people got lucky in the meat raffle and others in winning lucky door prizes.

“Deni MHAG is very excited about the Deniliquin Golf Club taking up this opportunity and intitiave to bring mental health and wellbeing into the club house, breaking down stigma and creating opportunities for their members to connect to promote wellbeing”, said Deni MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg.

“We would like to congratulate Deniliquin Golf Club for coming on board and making their member's wellbeing a priority”, she continued.

Part of the Golf Club campaign included launching a new HELPLINES poster campaign (consisting of two posters), encouraging people to reach out and have a chat when the load might get a bit heavy to carry.

These posters have been placed in visible and strategic places throughout the club and the message is clear.

“You don’t have to be in crisis to access support” and “You don’t’ have to hold it all on your own.”

The posters have a QR code that links people to the Deni MHAG website, with easy to navigate access to Helplines for everyone.

There are many Helplines that now offer 24/7 help, which are not only crisis lines; but offer the opportunity to talk through a wide range of issues with experienced councillors.

The Golf Club funding will also be used to provide free Mental Health First Aid training to club members and the community.

It will also host wellbeing nights for both men and women, all planned to be delivered over the next eight months.
