Under-12 Border Vikings

The Echuca Vikings took on Eaglehawk at Jack Eddy Oval on Saturday.

The Vikings, led by captain Shewan Silva, started strong, setting a fast pace for Eaglehawk to follow. Edward Melville used his speed early to outrun his opponents and move the ball forward, while Peaches Starritt impressed with her offensive play.

Jed Guinan kept Eaglehawk’s hardworking defenders guessing with two great shots at goal that narrowly missed. Late in the half, Sophie Millar also had a close shot for goal, finishing off an evenly matched half that ended scoreless.

The second half saw both teams continue to put on a great display of skill. Vikings’ hard-working Aarav Bhatia was unlucky not to score with his terrific shots at goal, while Cameron Peirce and Jesse Nye were strong in midfield.

Enrique Dos Santos was never far from the action, pushing forward at every opportunity. Riley Frazer was a standout as goalkeeper, saving several goals and frustrating the talented Eaglehawk strikers. Mitch Edwards and Caden Saunders were integral in clearing kicks out of defence, allowing the ball to move quickly to the Vikings’ forward half. Congratulations to both teams on a well-fought match that ended in a nil-nil draw.

Under-12 Border Raiders

On the weekend the U12 Border-Raiders team headed south to play Spring Gully Redbacks. The match commenced strongly in favour of the opposition. They kicked a couple of quick goals but handed the Raiders an own goal for the score sheet.

Strong in the backline were Xavier Stewart, Daniel Barry and Alex Attahl. It was getting rather hectic in the opposition goal square and Jack Dunne stepped up to save several attempts at goal. An awesome effort in the backline kept the pressure on the Redbacks and allowed the Raiders’ forwards to have a terrific day out, sealing the game 9-2.

Finn Murphy scored four goals, helped out by assists from Nate Murphy, Oscar Danswan and Matthew Maxwell. Two goals each from Benjamin Anthony and Jack Gibson completed a wonderful display of skill. Coach for the day Toby Song was very excited for the win.
