Echuca’s Archie Reid has taken out the Swiss City Half Marathon in the lakeside city of Lucerne, Switzerland as a successful Europe trip comes to a close.

Reid, 21, ran a blistering time of 1.06.18 over 21km, crossing the line three minutes ahead of second place to take out the event in the picturesque European countryside.

Reid said he was keen to race in Switzerland after a successful turn in Spain, where the rising star of Australian half-distance running placed 71st overall and fourth in the under-23 category at the Valencia Half Marathon last week.

“I heard [Lucerne] was a good race so I thought I would come and give it a try,” Reid said post-race.

“I came for a few races in Europe, I was in Valencia last week.

“It was a really amazing race, I’ve never done it before and the crowds were really good, thanks everyone for cheering me on.”

This comes after a strong showing from Reid in the Melbourne Marathon in early October, placing third in the 10km run.
