Revving up: Shepparton to host monster truck extravaganza

A monster truck showcase in the heart of Shepparton? Sure, why not?

Shepparton will welcome in one leg of the Daredevil Motorsports Tour this Saturday, February 10.

Shepparton Showgrounds will host across the afternoon and evening as monster truck action roars into life.

However, Daredevils’ Troy Garcia said there would be more than the rip-roaring feature acts on show.

“The concept behind Daredevils Motorsports Tour was to have a bit of everything behind it,” Garcia said.

“It has novelty events, rollover trucks, cars with jet engines, snowmobiles ... it’s a broader collection of events, so there should be something people take home.

“It’s an event of multiple motorsports, so there should be something for everybody instead of going and just watching motorbikes or just monster trucks.

“There’s a whole group of different acts in the show.”

While the monster trucks generally appeal to children the most, Garcia claims the ‘‘variety show’’ element should make all aspects of the show palatable to all ages.

This widespread enjoyment, he says, forms the essence of his motivation to deliver these events.

“It’s about bringing families out to watch our show, seeing kids smile and getting that warm feeling,” Garcia said.

“There’s a massive amount of work that goes on behind the scenes for a two-hour piece, but it’s rewarding; I get to make people smile at the end of the day.

“I’m away from home for months at a time, but meeting people, making new friends and giving them good memories are the drivers behind it for me.”

With a stop in Geelong due three weeks after the Shepparton event, Garcia explained why a comparatively smaller regional centre got the chance to host this weekend.

“We think the town itself warrants having (the show),” Garcia said.

“The showgrounds approached us to bring the event here, so that made it more inviting.

“I think the town will get behind this type of event; it’s unique with things like backflipping snowmobiles.

“You wouldn’t see that in many places.”
