The A grade Corowa Rutherglen team came away with the win over North Albury in a heart stopping O&M elimination final in Albury on Sunday, winning 34 to 33.

The girls had a slow start to the game 0 to 4 with some finals nerves taking a bit to settle. After Lou scored the Roos’ first goal the team was able to gain momentum to take control of the quarter. First quarter score saw the Roos leading 11 goals 7.

The second quarter the girls played a tight defensive game with Soph, Sal and Zoe taking some amazing inceptions which resulted in great transitioning by our mid court players Brooke and Leah. Ella was working the ball with precision passing to Indi who worked well with Lou under the ring. At half time the Roos had extended the lead 21 to Hoppers 14.

The third quarter saw a slight shift from North Albury who were not backing down, they applied pressure in our attack end which resulted in converted turnovers, Grace Hay from Hoppers placed tough defensive pressure on our shooters and turned the ball over a number of times. With only 5 goals scored by the Roo girls and leading by 3 points the last quarter was going to be intense.

Soph addressed the girls at the three quarter time huddle and reminded them to breathe, reset and believe in themselves. Several turnovers by both sides saw a seesawing battle with the Roos girls.

Sophie and the Sallys were stand out leaders on the court with immense defensive pressure on the Hoppers’ shooters they left nothing behind. With a big support Roo crowd and bench the girls held on to their lead to win by 1 goal.
