Roos netballers into finals

A Grade centre court Ella Kingston, Zoe Prentice and Leah Keating.

A grade had a solid win for our final round before finals against Lavington, finishing off the home and away season with a 22 goal win, 54 to 32.

Despite quite warm conditions, we executed a consistent four quarters, seeing strong drives, great feeding to our shooters and great full court defence!

Given this is our first year back after our Roo reset, we couldn’t be more excited or proud to be in the finals! We look forward to the journey ahead and taking on North Albury this Sunday. Today’s award winners were: Club 1- Ella Kingston: another stellar performance in WA today. Amity Drayton- great defensive performance in GD today saw lots of tips and turnovers Zoe Prentice- has continued to play better every week and this week was no different, another excellent game from our WD.

Superstar Sophie Hanrahan outstretches her opponent.

A big thanks to our sponsors Essential Beauty, The Hire Room and the Corowa Canteen committee for supporting us through awards this season and to Emily O’Brien who has been our reliable, ‘nothing’s-too-hard’ team manager this year – with the most amazing supply of game day lollies you’ve ever seen!

B Grade:

Corowa 39 defeated Lavington 38

It was a hot afternoon for the final round of the season. The girls took to the court in what was a thrilling game to the dying seconds! Slowly building the lead over the first three quarters to a six-goal lead at three-quarter time, Lavi were not giving up that easy.

B Grade defence action with Jade Lane, Macey Drayton and Courtney Haigh.

The girls fought their way back in the last quarter, at one stage being three goals down to take the win with less than 10 seconds left of play. The girls have had an enjoyable season, which was evident for anyone who watched them, just how much they’ve enjoyed getting around one another and having a good laugh together.

Club 1 & MVP: Eloise Black was hard to shut down as a holding shooter with great timing, strength and accuracy, shooting at 84% Club 2: Brooke Bice guided the team with amazing talk, all leadership down the court, feeding beautifully to the shooters. Canteen: Remy Longmire worked hard on her player to keep her out of the play and driving the second phase beautifully.

Thanks to Raff Sampson for being our ever-reliable team manager, imperative in communicating the many changes we made with the introduction of rolling subs this year with the bench officials. We’d also like to thank Origin Clothing, the club and Canteen Committee for their support with awards across the season.

C Grade:

Corowa 44 defeated Lavington 21

What a game for C grade with a 23-goal win! A game they should be proud of and have worked hard to make happen. On an unusually hot day compared to what we’ve had, we showed our growth and were competitive for a full 60 minutes. This meant taking home our best win for the season. The girls played smart netball by holding front, timing leads accurately and great hands over defence. Our whole court pressure with hands over and pushing our opponents on every drive for that extra step lead to many forced errors. If a ball dropped our girls were ready and cleared the ball out of defence cleanly and quickly.

Chelsea Parker (Club 1) had a stand-out game with perfectly timed drives, preliminary moves and her ability to hit her target was deadly. Jemma Smith (Thrive) had a great game in centre and created many turnovers and lost her player on her quick give a go movements. Stephanie Sutcliffe (canteen) played a strong game in shooting, controlling the ring and timing her holds to ensure safe possession. I am so thankful for the girls’ commitment and am proud of their development and attitude this year. We couldn’t have finished off the year any better. Thank you to the club sponsors, to the club and Thrive Boutique for our weekly awards. We appreciate the support.

U17s

Corowa 35 defeated Lavington 24

17s finished off the season with an 11-goal win over Lavi. After a great first quarter, Lavi fought back and levelled the scores at halftime. One of the best full-court defensive games we have had all season allowed the girls to pull away in the second half.

Led by Sommers Hogan (Club 1), who turned her body inside out to gain crucial intercepts and provide great drive out of defence. Rhi Quinton (Choc Factory) held strong in GS, was a target for our attackers and shot wonderfully. We are very proud Rhi and the work ahead has done to improve week on week. Katy Pritchard (canteen) ran a solid 4 quarters in C in what felt like 30-degree weather. Ever reliable in attack and can always count on her to get a tip or touch in defence, she had a fantastic game.

We are so proud of our 17s, this team is made up of local girls who have shown us first-hand why it was so important to us to ensure we had an O&M club in Corowa. Our team hailed from Corowa, Rutherglen, Chiltern, Howlong and Wodonga. The development and growth in their game has been amazing to watch. Their future is very bright! We are so excited to see what’s next.

U15s

Corowa 31 defeated by Lavington 67

Our 15s have finished off the season in style. In warm conditions, we started the game strong and kept the scoreline within one or two goals early on. Lavi broke away as the game progressed, but we managed to decrease our losing margin by a huge 15 goals from the last time we met! These girls have shown much growth, self-belief, team connection and trust across the season. Watch this group as they mature over the next few years. They show great potential as future Roo girl superstars. Awards: Club 1: Millie Eales Sportspower: Maiya Lea Canteen: Maci Coats MVP: Katelin Baker We extend a huge thank you to Andy, our Team Manager for the year, Kylie our week-to-week Primary Carer and all of our parents who taxi’d our little legends to training and games across the season. We finally extend a big thank you to Sportspower for their support of our weekly awards across the year.
