The Deniliquin Rovers seniors will take the field for the last time this season against finals challenger Picola United.

It is the second time the Rovers, who are currently in 11th position on the PDFL ladder, will go head-to-head with the eigth placed side.

Coah Alex Hay said the Deni seniors have had a solid week at training and are looking to finish the season off strongly.

“It’s been a really strong week on the track, which is really pleasing to see given we have missed out on finals contention,” said Hay.

“It shows that the guys are invested in what we are doing and keen to finish off the season on a positive note.

“There will be some sore bodies, which is always the case this time of the year, but otherwise we should be shaping up okay.”

Hay said the side will be looking to make up for the missed opportunity against Picola in round two of this season.

In a close contest, Picola took the chocolates by a nine point margin - 9.11 (65) to 8.8 (56).

“We had a really close battle with Picola at the start of the year,” he said.

“It was one of those games that got away from us and really was an opportunity missed.

“They are a finals side and have earned that right, but we are really focused on the task at hand which will certainly be a challenge that we will embrace.”

Hay said despite it being their last game, he will continue to look for improvement within the group.

“In some games we have had a slow start and had to claw back into the game, where in others we have started well but then had lapses,” Hay said.

“Getting the balance right is critical and something that we are always striving for regardless of the position we are in.”

The Rovers seniors will take to the field at 2.05pm tomorrow, for their final game of the season at Memorial Park.

While the seniors’ season may be coming to an end after tomorrow, games will continue into finals for three Rovers football sides and six netball teams.

The reserves will head into finals comfortably in sixth place, as will the thirds.

The fourths, who have been dominant all season, will head into finals in second place, just one loss behind ladder leader Tungamah.

In netball, five Deni Rovers teams currently top the league ladders - B-grade, C-grade, C-reserve, under-17s and under-13s.

Both the under-17s and under-13s are so far undefeated this season.

Under-15s will also be a contender for finals, currently sitting in fourth place on the PDNL ladder.
