After the recent announcement that the Rovers are returning in 2024, the club has confirmed its MiniRoos coach.
Hayley Cooper, who has been part of the Rovers for the past 13 years, will teach some of Benalla’s newest soccer players the basics of the beautiful game.
Cooper has been at the club since she was five and says it’s great to see players getting back out on Churchill Reserve in 2024.
“It feels very good (to have the Rovers back). I’ve been waiting for it for a long time,” Copper said.
“I couldn’t run it by myself, so I’m so glad these lovely people have come to help.”
Copper might be young, but she’s already got valuable experience teaching youngsters how to play soccer.
Having served as an assistant coach for the club’s MiniRoos programs in the past, she has played a crucial role in nurturing the love for soccer at the Rovers.
Cooper also has experience taking on the main coaching role, as she was the coaching director for the MiniRoos program in 2021, the same role she’ll take on this year.
Cooper says the club has received strong support since it announced it was starting the MiniRoos and social soccer programs.
“We’ve had a lot of interaction, which is awesome, and we’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about it (the MiniRoos program),” she said.
“So we’re going to start off with our little kids, and we’ve got social soccer on a Friday night, and it’s for anybody who doesn’t really fit into the age group of the kids.
“Anybody’s welcome and just come down and have a kick.”
The Benalla Roversis also putting the call out for volunteers to help run the programs.
All volunteers need is a working with children check, and there are multiple roles required, from first aid, admin, and coaching.
Training will be provided for all roles.
