An electric day on the greens manifests this weekend as Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s elite seek to defend its Rowlands-Sutcliffe Trophy crown.

Goulburn Murray Bowls Region hosts its second edition of the Trophy Challenge, named after local legends Maurie Rowlands and Geoff Sutcliffe.

Last year’s inaugural challenge went the way of GVPA 52-427 to 26-370 over three rounds of hotly-contested bowls action.

Numurkah Bowls Clubs hosts the standoff between Goulburn Valley and Murray Playing Areas, with 48 of the region’s finest bowlers selected for Sunday’s action.

The round-robin tournament pits 24-strong men’s and women’s GVPA teams against their MPA opposites across the day’s competition.

It’s not just silverware on the line for the GVPA lot.

Sunday’s Rowlands-Sutcliffe Trophy Challenge will double as a chance to impress selectors ahead of GMBR’s regional clash with Ovens and Murray Bowls Region on December 3.

Meanwhile, a Tallygaroopna quartet has earned passage through to the final of the GMBR state men’s fours event.

Redlegs guns David Daws, Mitch Sidebottom, Guy Madigan and Brett Wright defeated Kyabram’s David Cartwright, Josh Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright and Charlie Boswood in the GV final on Sunday.

Tallygaroopna now meets a Finley outfit from the MPA in the decider.
