Several football and netball clubs across northern Victoria have received grants as a result of their work to highlight the need for road safety.

A total of 10 clubs at senior and junior level in the Hume region will receive a share in the pool of $600,000 that the Victorian Government offered in conjunction with the Transport Accident Commission.

Leading all comers within the Hume contingent is Wallan Junior Football Club of the Northern Football Netball League, which will receive $6800 out of the maximum $10,000 any one club was eligible to earn.

The Ovens and Murray league’s Wodonga Raiders, Tallangatta District’s Rutherglen FNC, Wallan FNC in the Riddell District league, Murray Felines of the AFL NEB Female competition and the Kyabram District League’s Shepparton East will all receive $4300 for their efforts.

Rounding out the recipients were Rumbalara FNC in the Murray league and Wangaratta District League’s Wangaratta College JFC (both $1800) alongside Tallangatta District’s Yackandandah FNC and Yea FC of the Outer East (both $800).

The rewards were issued as part of the TAC Club Rewards Program, with 251 clubs statewide sharing in the total allotment.

Per TAC figures, 237 Victorians have died on state roads to midnight on October 31, up from 205 at the same time in 2022.

The year has been particularly tragic within the confines of Greater Shepparton, with more than triple the fatalities (14) experienced to the corresponding date 12 months ago (four).
