Shannon shines with six
Katandra’s B-grade captain Ryleigh Shannon starred with a classy six-wicket haul in his side’s 63-run loss to Nagambie.
Shannon produced career-best figures of 6-14 from his nine overs.
It was the fourth five-wicket haul of his career.
He was the second Eagle to clinch a six-wicket haul on Saturday, following on from the efforts of Jedd Wright in the Haisman Shield.
Cats claw to 10-run win
Sticking with Clyde Young Shield action, Mooroopna held on through the skin of its teeth in its B-grade clash against Central Park-St Brendan’s.
The Cats clinched a nervous and tense 10-run triumph as the Tigers reached 7-191 from 45 overs in reply to Mooroopna’s 201.
Central Park-St Brendan’s youngster Max Hooper added to his bowling credentials with a stellar five-wicket haul in the loss.
The teenage opening quick claimed 5-13 from nine overs which consisted of five maidens.
It was Hooper’s third career five-wicket haul.
Kareem-ing them
In C-grade, Reza Kareem was the hero for Central Park-St Brendan’s in its four-wicket win over Invergordon.
With his side 6-83, Kareem smashed a match-winning unbeaten 71 runs to steer CPSTB to victory.
The class innings was Kareem’s first half-century for the Tigers.
Teammate Mursalin Ahmed also chalked up his first five-wicket haul with a memorable 5-43.
Old Students punish Murchison
Old Students walked away from Kialla Recreation Reserve with a thumping 169-run victory over Murchison.
Hayden Kruse and Michael Drew both notched up unbeaten half-centuries as Students posted a mammoth 7-236.
Drew managed 72 from 53 deliveries, while Kruse went two better with 74 off 96 balls.
The pair managed to belt 19 boundaries between them in their 130-run stand.
The day was memorable for both batters with their half-centuries the first of their careers.
Raise the bat
There is no denying the warmer weather is making it easier for batters to run amok.
Saturday’s bright sunshine and blue skies was followed by a total of 16 half-centuries in the four lower grades.
Five 50s were crunched in E-grade, four in D-grade, four in C-grade and three in B-grade.
