Shepparton District Tennis Association reached its penultimate round of fixtures at weekend, with players now well and truly getting into finals mode.

A resounding Shepparton North performance against St Brendan’s was the highlight of pennant action; the ladder-leader proving it’ll take some beating if someone is to challenge it for the pennant title.

The final score was a comprehensive 9-54 to 0-10 domination, with the likes of Clark Pettigrew, Helen Jackson and Georgie Moore putting wins in the bank.

McEwen Reserve solidified a hold on second with a 6-44 to 3-38 victory at Karramomus, while Old Students got the better of Central Park in a battle of fourth and third.

A1 remains as hotly-contested as ever, with little to separate the table’s top six.

McEwen Reserve Red and Green collected narrow victories to stay in the hunt, sitting in second and fourth spot respectively.

One set and three games were the difference in McEwen Reserve Green’s clash with Murchison, the combination of Geoff Akers and Meredith Chillman getting Green over the line with a 6-1 victory in the final doubles rubber.

Bunbartha secured points against Lemnos with a 6-44 to 3-31 win to round out pennant action.

The A2 division’s top sides look dressed and ready — a gulf between the ladder-leaders and stragglers widening week by week.

Top-of-the-table Karramomus collected a fairly routine 7-48 to 2-28 victory over Shepparton North, booking a home semi-final meet in doing so.

Reece Dowell and Kade Madigan (6-1) performed well for North to clinch a valuable set, but the Bloods’ dominance came to the fore once again; James, Stephanie and Katharina Veal asserting their authority on the match.

St Andrew’s secured the points against McEwen Reserve with a hard-fought 5-48 to 4-27 to keep it in second, closing out the round.

The final round of the season proper is this weekend, with semi-finals the weekend following.
