In October this year, The News sat down with Sensei Trevor Roberts in anticipation of his arrival.
On Friday, November 22 he touched down on Victorian soil, where he was picked up by Numurkah’s Sensei Steve Ahern of Shotokan Karate Budokai Victoria.
After hours of road tripping along freeways, highways and through potholes, the pair made it to Numurkah, ready for Roberts to grade Ahern’s students.
“Sensei Trevor was a big hit as always and looking fit,” Ahern said.
“Karate has been a massive benefit for him in his recovery and we also benefit greatly from having him here.”
In terms of grading, Ahern said Roberts had some tough work to do, but karate was worth it.
“Karate works on all five aspects of wellbeing, including the physical, spiritual, emotional, social and mental aspects,” he said.
“Definitely something Trevor had to draw on in his fight with cancer and also something to offer everyone who starts training.
“I also love that karate is fully inclusive and includes all areas of diversity and disability.”
With Roberts’ visit, it’s an important reminder to keep on top of our physical health and if you feel something, go get checked.
“I again hope that people remember to check their bodies if they notice anything different, don’t wait,” Ahern said.
“And perhaps give karate a go if they want to enhance their wellbeing.
“I know we will always welcome the humble beginner at Shotokan Karate Budokai in Numurkah.”
