Whatever the Lions did in their week-long break, it paid dividends on the court at Mansfield Recreation Reserve.
Seymour has been prone to upsets in the Goulburn Valley League recently, but the side was determined not to hand Mansfield its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions blasted out of the gates and dominated the play as they defeated the Eagles by 33 goals.
Player-coach Ellie Fuhrmeister was impressed by her side’s performance after the break gave it time to rest.
“It was nice to see some of our combinations get a bit more time and to work on a few different things,” Fuhrmeister said.
“It was good to put some scoreboard pressure on in doing that as well, so it was a good win.”
Fuhrmeister heaped praise on defender Casey Adamson.
“I don’t know exactly how many intercepts she took but she was just everywhere and every time we made a bit of a mistake she was there to save the day and she won the ball back for us all day,” she said.
“Sarah Szczykulski was also really good yesterday.
“I think having a week off is always nice to get away from it and rest and recover, sort of reset before you hit the back half of this season. So yeah, I think it was good for the girls to have a week off and come back refreshed and excited to play again.”
Seymour looks to be back in form as it takes second place on the ladder and mounts pressure on joint top-of-the-table Mooroopna and Euroa.
The Lions will come face-to-face with Benalla this Saturday as they try to extend their winning streak out to three games, but Fuhrmeister is taking nothing for granted.
“We’ll be getting back into training this week and looking at consolidating our combinations,” Fuhrmeister said.
“We’ve had a few injuries in our A-grade side, so we’re still building on some connection on court, so we’ll be focusing on that and hopefully come out with a good performance against Benalla.”
