Seymour basketball star impresses in America

Driving: Eden Hobbs goes past his defender.

Dreams do not just fall into your lap, you have to work tirelessly to make them come true.

Eden Hobbs, the rising star of Seymour’s Country Basketball League side, has been working towards his sporting goals, and has recently returned triumphant from his journey to the United States with the AUSA basketball program.

Competing in two tournaments in Chicago — the Prep Summer Challenge from June 30 to July 2 and The Last Dance from July 7 to 9 — Eden’s team delivered an impressive 7-1 record, leaving a trail of defeated American teams on their home soil.

It was during the Prep Summer Showcase tournament that Eden truly distinguished himself, showcasing his exceptional skills.

No look: Eden Hobbs turns on the theatrics in Chicago.

The Seymour teenager, who plays as a guard, averaged an impressive 14.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

Eden attributes his remarkable progress in basketball to the outstanding coaching he has received and his involvement with the Seymour basketball program.

The program’s team-first culture has allowed Eden to flourish and showcase his talents to the fullest extent.

The AUSA basketball program not only provides Australian basketball prodigies with the opportunity to travel internationally and face top-level competition but also serves as a platform for aspiring athletes to catch the attention of college recruiters.

Eden left a lasting impression on those in attendance during a pivotal game against Peak Basketball Arizona, where he scored an impressive 20 points.

He was named the standout player of the tournament for his team and his coach, Ed Summers, was impressed with the Seymour player’s solid defence.

“Eden led our offense by creating energy off of explosive plays,” Summers said.

“Eden’s defence during both weekends was phenomenal, leading to more chances on the other side.”

Eden will also be hoping he impressed college basketball scouts present at the tournaments and that an offer might come his way in the future.

For now, he is eagerly preparing to compete in the upcoming 2023-24 CBL competition with his Seymour Blasters.
