Seymour has already cast its eye to a bounce-back 2023 campaign, announcing the addition of Will Brock and Ricky Schraven to its strong playing list.

Both Brock and Schraven come to the club after a stint with Wallan in the Riddell District League and add critical depth to a Lions side that narrowly missed out on Goulburn Valley League finals in 2022.

Brock is no stranger to Kings Park, playing his junior football at Seymour and winning the club’s under-18s best-and-fairest in 2012 before making his senior debut in 2013.

Schraven comes to the club with a sparkling resume, having represented Victoria and played for VFL side Coburg before returning to Wallan and winning the Riddell District League best-and-fairest in 2021.

Coach Ben Davey said he was delighted to have the pair on-board.

“Will is a Seymour person. He played his footy here as a junior and all of his family is from here, so I’ve been talking to him for a while to try and get him back at the club. Luckily for us, he decided now was the time to make the move back,” Davey said.

“Ricky comes across with Will and he will add a lot to our group. He already knows a lot of the guys on our list and is a ripping guy along with being a good footballer.

“So as a club, we are super excited to have both of them on board and they will add a lot both on and off the field.”

Brock is a talented key position prospect who has the ability to play both up forward and in the ruck, with his presence set to bolster Seymour’s already star-studded attacking half.

Meanwhile, Schraven is a skilful on-baller who can find the footy at will and burst from stoppages, with his skill set perfectly complementing inside bulls Ben Rigoni and Rory Scopel.

Davey said he was keen to see both players attack the pre-season hard and earn their spots in the best 22.

“Both guys are keen to start working really hard and break into our senior side, which is pretty hard because our team is pretty strong at full strength,” he said.

“So they’ll have to work hard and prove themselves, but I think they’ll add a lot to our list and fill some needs.

“I can see Ricky playing through the midfield and across half-forward with his ball use being a real weapon, while Will is a tall that can play forward and ruck and give us some real versatility.”

Along with the two additions, Seymour has done a power of work on the re-signing front, with the likes of Morrison medallists Ben Rigoni and Jack O’Sullivan headlining a list of 50 players already committing to the club.

“I tried to get as many boys re-signed as possible immediately after the season, and we’ve got 50 of our 68 from last season already on board,” Davey said.

“It shows that everyone is really enjoying being at the club, being part of our culture and the strong place we are in at the moment.

“We’ve also got a few more recruits set to pop up over the next few weeks, which is exciting.”
