A Seymour cafe run by locals has stepped up its community involvement to support Mitchell Shire’s biggest sporting event.
The Brewers Table, proudly owned and operated by Carmen and Robert Fields since 2015, will be one of the headline sponsors of the $150,000 Seymour Cup to be held on Sunday, October 13.
Fields said the cup had a special place in the hearts of the business and the town.
“We have been in Seymour for the last nine years and during that time we have served many racegoers, especially when the cup is on,” Carmen said.
“It is clear that is a special event where the community comes together.”
She believes the race meeting’s absence in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022 was felt by businesses and community members alike.
“The five years it was not running was a bit of a blow to the town and our business,” Carmen said.
The cafe has gotten into the racing spirit, decking out the entrance with all things horse racing.
“We have had so many positive comments about our display over the school holidays, from both our regulars but also holidaymakers,” Carmen said.
The cafe will have a stall on raceday where its finest cakes, coffee and sandwiches will be on offer for hungry racegoers.
The cup will be the last of a nine-race card and will be run at 4.45pm.
